How Can An Open Heel Wound With Discoloration Be Treated?

Hi, My housemate just had a chunk of skin fall out of the back of his heel after his shower. It is about 2cm x 1cm x 1cm. The wound in his heel didn t bleed, but it looks to be grey or dark blue. He said there is no pain. Could this just be a deep blood blister, or something more worrying? We live in Australia and are concerned it may be a spider bite? Thanks
