Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I’m a 57 year old female and about 3-6 times a month I have blood coming out of my butt. I could be doing anything from watching tv to cleaning. I get itchy and irritated, I then go to the bathroom to find blood on my underwear and/or blood on the toilet paper. I had a colonoscopy in 2010 and they did remove a polyp. This bleeding has been happening for 6 months now. Any suggestions?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Bleeding per rectum have to be evaluated thoroughly especially in your age group. Most often it might be due to hemorrhoids (piles) or may be due to polyps in your case. Consult a gastroenterologist and get a colonoscopy done to look for the cause. As of now take high fiber diet and avoid straining for stools.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
