Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having problems with really bad breath odor for many years. After running to the dentist using every oral hygiene product under the sun, with no relief, finally realized that it was coming from my throat region. Found areas pockets or crevices in the back of my throat region, that I can feel and when I pull my hand away from these areas, I can smell the odor. I do not feel actual stones back there, but could I possibly be having problems with tonsil stones. The breath odor keeps coming back despite spraying with a water pick, rubbing hydrogen peroxide and a water mixture back there.?
Bad breath or Halitosis is a common problem and if your oral hygiene is appropriate then it can be very much due to tonsil stones or tonsilloliths that is a very common cause for a bad breath..
At times individuals who has deep tonsillar crypts can suffer from bad smell as well as throat irritation due to accumulation of food debris over the tonsils and also causing infection as well as stone formation..
So it is advisable to you is to consult an Otorhinolaryngologist or an ENT Physician and get evaluated and if the tonsil stones are present then they can be removed manually.. You can further prevent excessive formation of stones and food debris accumulation is to gargle with hydrogen peroxide solution in water.. Do warm saline gargles.. To mask bad smell you can chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gum.. You can gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
