How Can Calluses On The Big Toe Be Treated?

Yes,my mom is 90 years old and has a callus or corn between her big toe, and second toe on her right foot. It is reoccurring and had been treated by a podiaotrist. But today we noticed that, the toe is dark/black, and the skin seems thick. What is this & how urgent? Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As a first line management you can apply salicylic acid preparations which can act as Keratolytic action by dissolving thick skins. Commonly prescribed brands are duo film.
If the problem persist, it is better to cauterize the lesion under local anesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
