How Can Childbirth Be Done With Consciousness And Lesser Pain Levels?

Hello I had a vertical emergency cesarean 4 yrs ago with my daughter. I had general anethesia then. I desire to be concious this time, with my son. However, I am VERY anxious about the anethesia aspect of it. What are the risks, how painful are blocks (both kinds), and which is safer in a planned situation?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.

If you wish to be conscious during the cesarean delivery you can opt for spinal anesthesia. You will feel numb from your waist down, will not feel any pain. At the same time you can be conscious, you can hear the first cry of your newborn! You will recover from the effects of the anesthesia in 4-6 hours.

Hope this was useful.

With best wishes,
Dr.Dhwaraga
