How Can Chronic Constipation Be Treated?

My husband is 84, I'm 2015 he had congestive heart failure, the dr. That done the surgery,didn't stitch it back right on the inside,he got indocarditis, sepsis, same ,same surgery, every since then he's been in & off of hospital, my question is her been here for 9 days,for y he last 3 days he moans all day & all night & hasn't had a bowel movement the 9 days we've been here, what can this do to him if they dont give him something,enimi, cause he's not alert enough @ to swallow anything

If the constipation is the main concern then no need to worry about this because there may not be any fecal material for defecation, let me be on routine diet first till then it is nothing to worry, to give enema in this age is not at all advisable, instead of that routine diet like fiber containing diet, plenty off water will help him lot else it is nothing to worry.
