How Can Chronic Cough And Runny Nose Be Treated?

I had a cold a few days ago and got caught in a sand storm riding through the desert. Since then the cough has got a lot worse. Feels fairly loose but not coughing up mucous. Sneezing occasionally and sometimes runny nose. Cough got worse over three days. No temperature. Otherwise feel good. Suggestions.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms suggestive of bronchi inflammation condition. You can be prescribed decongestant course like Benadryl or Levocetrizine for symptomatic relief. I suggest you to investigate with CBC. Your physical examination and auscultation needs to be done to exclude any abnormal respiratory sound if present. If no Improvement than cough syrup containing Dextromethorphan can be prescribed. Consult physician for examination.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
