How Can Chronic Cough And Runny Nose Be Treated?

Hi, my son is 20months old and he started on Monday with a bad cough. I took him to the clinic in Monday, they said his chest sounds fine and gave me Duolin and saline to nebulise 3 times a day. Tuesday he was worse so I took him to another clinic and she also said his chest sounds ok, ears and throats are also good. Today he is very bad, I kept in nebulising as told , but I have some Pulmicort as well. Is that better to use than Duolin? I ll take him to the dr first thing tomorrow, today is a public holiday. His nose is also very runny and he is not eating at all. I am giving him formula which he is drinking. His cough is very bad. Duolin or Pulmicort? Many thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be a viral infection and they take atleast a week to clear up. give him adequate rest . Duolin is a fine drug . but do visit the doctor tomorrow as they should look at the chest often which I am sure they do as in kids we need to rule out any chest involvement early.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
