How Can Chronic Cough And Runny Nose In A Toddler Be Treated?

I have a three year old grand daughter. She has had a cold for almost a week. She came home from her visit like this. Her cough is like a bark, and her nose is running with thick green, and at night she gets worse. she will run a fever. she will not eat that much, only some fruit. I give her baths and try to get her to eat chicken soup but she will not. I have rub vapor rub on her back, chest and feet covered with socks. She will drink during the day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to the health care magic

As per the history the symptoms should not be neglected.

it could be pneumonia or bronchiolitis like respiratory infection

if needed chest X-ray can be done and CBC can be done.

your child auscultation also should be done

if blood picture or chest X-ray showing sign of bacterial infection then sputum culture can be done

Take care

Hope this will help you

Antibiotic started if reports suggestive of bacterial infection

consult pediatrician for examination
