I am a 74 yr old mail who had pneumonia 4 weeks ago and was put on antibiotics for 5 days the second chest X Ray which indicated the lungs had cleared. I am currently about to finish Tomiflu which I have been on for 8 days. 4 days ago I had a hard caugh episode and caughed up some red blood flem. This has continued any time I have a caugh, does not occur with a mild caogh. Worse at night when sleeping, when I gel to to urinate as I assume more blood has accumulated. I am a smoker withmild OCPD. Could it be Broncits and will theaughing up of blood stop with time. Could the Tamiflu be causing to some degree ?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Blood stain sputum may happens in case of pneumonia, once you finished the course of disease then symptoms also vanishes and if it take some time then it is nothing to worry but be patience, if the symptoms of blood stained sputum continue to happens then CT chest is advisable, but blood stained sputum is not due to drug (Tamiflu) and no need to worry about this.
Hope I have answered your query, Let me know for further assistance.
