How Can Chronic Hyperacidity Be Treated?

I am a 66 year old male and suffering from chronic hyperacidity for many years. I almost regularly take an antacid like pentaprozole 40mg or equivalent once in a day and sometimes at night time I have to take some antatcid like Gelusil liquid or tablet otherwise I suffer. I am afraid that this may lead to side effects. Are there any better new medicines available? All tests for ulcer etc.are done, there is no ulcer or any other abnormality. Doctor says it is only gastritis and I have to take medicines regularly. Please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to chronic gastritis.

For that you can take tablet pantoprazole and syp mucaine gel after consultation.

Avoid hot and spicy foods.

Take light foods and avoid sleep immediately after the food.

In case of not getting relief you may require upper GI endoscopy after consultation

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale, Family and general physician
