How Can Constipation And Fecal Impaction Be Treated?

I have recently been severely constipated and on 2 occasions unable to evacuate my bowels at all. This last time I have to use an enema to break it loose. There was a lot of red blood with the stool. The initial stool was hard, dry pebbles but the rest was a large normal stool.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is important to make dietary modifications that ensure soft stools. A fibre-rich diet and sufficient fluid intake are paramount.

If you have not previously had a colonoscopy, I suggest you see a gastroenterologist/surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
