Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good afternoon Doctor, I am looking for information about the day to day management recommendations for an elder with dementia. I understand that there are certain techniques to help them get organized, prevent confusion or disorientation. Can you direct me to a website or literature that can help me? Thank you.
Hello, The best source of information is at this website https://yyyyyy.org/?yyyyyyyyyyyy-Pyyyyyyyyyyyy-yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy_yyyE it is for Alzheimer's patients but will give helpful advice for any sort of dementia. It is always important to assist these patients with setting a regular routine and trying not to disrupt the routine unless absolutely necessary. Even taking a dementia patient out for lunch in an unfamiliar place can cause them to become unstable for days. Use written notes, clocks and calendars for reminders. Do not correct them or tell them they already said that because that just makes them more frustrated. Good luck
