How Can Diabetes Along With Headaches And High BP Be Treated?

I am asking about my husband. He is 84 years old, has been diabetic since his 50 s. Has had very high blood pressure and some headaches, lately. Does not exercise; sits watching television for hours. He is not a happy person, but won t admit it. He does belong to a club and spends a few hours there with his friends a few days a week. I would like to call his doctor who takes very good care of him, but I hesitate; he wouldn t like it. He is not a fun guy to be around while at 81 still get a lot of fun out of life. I guess I have to grin and bear it because it s called nagging if I suggest anything. We have been married for 57 years, have 3 great adult children, but I am not too happy!!

Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Regarding diabetes if it is not controlled by medications then discuss with your Doctor about insulin therapy.

2)Eat healthy foods. Choose foods lower in fat and calories and higher in fiber. Focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

3)Get more physical activity. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day. Lose excess pounds. If you're overweight, losing even 7% of your body weight can reduce the risk of diabetes complications.

Regarding Hypertension follow lifestyle modification like this -

1)Do take prescribed medications as per your treating Doctor.

2)Try to eat healthy foods. Try the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Get plenty of potassium, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat.

3)Try to decrease the salt in your diet.

4)Try to limit alcohol and don't smoke.

5)Try to manage stress. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation.

6)Monitor your blood pressure at home. Home blood pressure monitoring can help you keep closer tabs on your blood pressure, show if medication is working, and even alert you and your doctor to potential complications.

Hope that helps
