How Can Diarrhea Be Treated?

Hello, I was recently out of the US visiting the Dominican Republic. I got a bad case of diarrhea of the last day. It lasted for about 12 days and I feel like it is getting better. However my poops are still not completely normal and when they come on I have to hit a bathroom right away. Will this go away on its own or should I consult a doctor in person?

Hi welcome to the health care magic

You are having diarrhea since 12 days...

As per history diarrhea not improving I think, so for that stool examination and CBC is indicated

If stool shows pus cells then culture needed to choose antibiotic

If stool shows parasite egg then albendazole like drug prescribed

If stool report absolutely normal then no need to worry further

Take Small meal with frequent interval

Cooked oatmeal help in soothing stomach

Take probiotic tablet for seven days

If your condition worsening then you have to consult physician nearby for further work up according to examination
