How Can Difficulty In Urinating Be Treated?

Hi , my 90 year old dad broke his hip and had surgery . He had a cAtheter put in and it s been two weeks and he hasn t been able to urinate on his own . Every time they take it out they see bladder retention and put it back in. I am so worried and he is so upset .

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The bladder has to be retrained.

The catheter needs to be clamped for increasingly longer periods. Eg initially it can be clamped for an hour , this can then be increased.
This allows to bladder re learn how to hold urine

After this has been done for a period of time, then the catheter can be removed
