Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My kidney EGFR level has been between 60 and 70 for the last cuple of years. I am a Hispanic woman 77 years old. The last blood test that still had those levels was in june 2017. I just had another blood test, 2 weeks ago and my EGFR has dropped to 37! My creatinine reads : 1.37. I take Lisinopril (40mg) and hydrochlorothiazide (12.5mgcp). Back in August 2017 I started drinking 1 cup of water with 2 tbspns of apple cider vinegar in the morning on and empty stomache and in the evening, 1 hour before bed and at first took the water pill every other day then eliminated it completely after a month, and my blood pressure has been normal. I stopped taking the vinegar in December, because I was so busy during the holidays and instead started taking the water pill in its place. Ive gotten very dehydrated since I started the water pill and now these terrible kidney readings! Should I go back to vinegar? My Doctor wants to send me to the kidney doctor! Help! Please!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Sorry to hear of your disease. In fact your doctor is very right in sending you to a kidney doctor as it is not good to ignore such a big drop in your egfr. Though it may be secondary to less water being taken. Whatever is the cause that should be sorted out, by your doctor to give you a good plane ahead. I don't think it would be only the game of taking vinegar or not. You should see a kidney specialist for better advice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
