How Can Excessive Belching Be Treated?

My husband has excessive be!ching. He was given the ring for here and has barred esophagus. He had a scope so doesn't have stomach or esophageal cancer but the belching never goes away. He has some relief when he lays down. Doctors have said they can't figure it out so "oh well, just be in his mind". He is often short of breath.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

He may be suffering from chronic gastritis with GERD with barrets esophagus. It may cause belching and pain in the epigastric region. He may need surgery for barret esophagus or hiatus hernia. Avoid spicy food and alcohol, avoid smoking. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
