Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Prolonged Valium use may lead to dependence, that's why your Doctor advised you to avoid its use for a long time.
Since you say that seizures are triggered by stress, controlling stress may help prevent seizures too.
Drugs that have mood stabilizing effects and seizures control such Lamictal, Depakote, may be used.
Discuss with your Neurologist about these issues.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
