How Can Headache And Disorientation After A Seizure Be Treated?

Last Wed. my 40 year old daughter had a seizure. She has not had a seizure in the past. She had been having an extremely bad headache all day, she fell back and hit her head on a desk, very large knot on the back of her head. Since that time she states that she is very fuzzy with her thought process, can t seem to find her words easily, her handwriting is not normal. She is an avid reader but can not seem to follow the story line of anything she reads since. This is a very sharp woman, well spoken, well read and not a complainer. She states that she has lost at least 2 1/2 hours of that night and since says she just does not feel right. At this time she does not have a say is her medical care and was not seen by a physician for two days. Was given a medication that she is to take 2 times a day but it makes her feel stupid and feel like her face is vibrating so she does not wish to take it. What would you suggest? I am concerned that she may have had a mild stroke and should be seen.

Hello,

Judging from the combination of seizure, headache and cognitive changes I agree with your concern.

The first seizure at that age should be definitely carefully investigated as it could be in the setting of brain lesions such as stroke, tumour, infection etc, any of those can produce a clinical picture of a headache, seizures and behaviour changes.

So she should have a neurological exam and probably brain imaging to investigate for brain lesions.

It is unclear what medication was she given and for what suggested purpose, might be medication side effects as well, but can't say with current info, should be seen as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
