Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was released out of the hospital today after 18 days. His iliostomy herniated in two areas and was repaired. He had hiccups before going in and has continued with them since. He has lost over 50 lbs. prior to his surgery. He was told that he has a fat pocket that was compromised and the body will eventually absorb it as it deteriorates. He wa s given Zofran ODT mg when he was released. Is there anything that can be done now to alleviate the hiccups?
Hello dear, welcome to"Ask a doctor" service. I read your query and here is my advice. The hicups comes from chemical of physical phrenic nerve stimulation. He should do a hemofasanalysis to check electrolyte disbalance and correct them. Or if it is a mechanical cause suppressing the phrenic nerve he has to correct it by surgery. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
