How Can Hoarseness And Pain In The Jaw Be Treated?
Hi I have, been experiencing lock jaw and hoarseness for the last few months but in the last few, weeks it's been somewhat worse, for four days it was very painful then eased up for a day or two now it's back called an ENT Dr but can t get in for a few weeks
Locking of jaw can be due to causes like jaw joint problem causing dislocation of the jaw.
It can occur due to causes like weakness of the muscles and ligaments around the jaw joint, teeth grinding habit causes damage to the jaw joint, trauma to the jaw joint etc..
It can also be due to dental causes like wisdom tooth related problem or Pericoronitis.. If there is also associated pain and swelling then it is probably due to the wisdom tooth..
So, yes first of all you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a clinical examination should be done followed by a full mouth x ray like Panoromic x ray...
For now you can take a combination of painkiller and muscle relaxant.. You can also avoid excess mouth opening.. You should take soft diet.. Massage the sides of the jaw with gentle round movements of finger tips..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
