How Can Hyper Lung Inflation Be Treated?

Hello, I have hyper lung inflation from cycling.I am only 83, but in very good shape, BP 120/80, resting pulse 60. What can I do to get back on the bike? Cold air and wind are the culprints. I take Albuterol, Qvar 80 andMontelukast, staying home is OK, but not improving. My Pulmo doc has no clue.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Your medicines are for asthma. Hyperinflation of the lungs is more common with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD responds better to Tiotropium ( Spiriva). Also, you may require a combination of long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) and steroid inhalers like Symbicort or Seretide. You can discuss it with your pulmonologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah
