How Can Irregular Period Be Regularized?

Hi Doctor : Iam 33 years old . Iam having iregular periods.Last month i got my periods on 40th day . This time today is my 48th day still no signs of periods.I did BHCG test on 44th day and level was just 1 . Should i wait for some more days and test again or take tablest to induce my periods. This month from day 5 to day 25 we were in contact every alternative days .Kindly advise and i and trying hard for baby .
