Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Im 14, female.. the past few nights, i have been waking up anywhere between 1 and 5 in the morning because of leg cramps in my calf muscles in both legs, and it happens in the day too.. most of the time they last a good few minutes and are extremely painful. I m not entirely sure why, and I really don t know what to do about them, because they are extremely painful, and after they have happened, i get a feeling that it will come back, which hurts to walk..
Your symptoms could be suggestive of Restless leg syndrome or low vitamin D levels. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and performing some tests: - Complete blood count and iron levels for anemia - Vitamin D and calcium plasma levels - Uric acid levels - PCR for inflammation. - Other tests to consider would be: ASO titer, FR levels, ANA and ANCA titer, etc.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
