How Can Microscopic Colitis Be Treated?

I am 62 years old and have always been active. I was diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis several years back and have been on a low dose of Budesonide for years. I had a major flare up a couple of months ago and had to do two rounds of Prednisone tapers. I rapidly put on weight and now no matter what I do I cannot get this weight off, I count calories, walk, life weights to Pilates and the weight does not budge. I stayed bloated, have horrible, can t go out in public gas and then after the gas I lose a bit of feces. I am so frustrated as I am a very active person. What do I do.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Formation of flatus could be due to infection if it is not normal one as you stated here that flatus comes out with little stool so it is not the normal one and it may be due to some intestinal or gut pathologies, and most common is it could be infection, if I would be doctor of this case then I would try to treat this case with Tab Metronidazole twice in day for five days, now for the obesity it can be central one and it could be genetically related, avoid taking high calorie diet, regular exercise is must, stay away from the stress hope this information, helps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
