How Can Pain And Swelling In The Ankles Be Treated?

I kicked my shin with the heel of my other foot while falling off a lilo in the pool while on holiday just over 5 weeks ago. I had swelling where the impact was and my leg bruised it was very painful and limped about for a couple of days. The bruising moved down my leg but after the flight home the bruising around my ankle was quite bad. When I have been on my feet at work all day I am getting a lot of pain around my ankle and where the lump on my shin is and also dull aching that goes to my groin at times. The pain is quite intense and sickly at some points and I also have slightly swelling around my ankle.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, you should definitely consult orthopedic doctor and get done clinical examination, x ray and MRI of both ankle joint. Possibility of musculoskeletal injury is more likely for your swelling. You will need painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs like ibuprofen and thiocolchicoside. Limb elevation and immobilization will also work. Calcium and vitamin d 3 supplements are also indicated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
