How Can Pain And Swelling In The Index Finger Be Treated?

my index finger on my right hand is swollen and painful - not sure if I should go to the doctor. It s been like this for a couple of weeks - on and off. I m thinking it is sprained, but don t remember doing anything to sprain it. What can I do to lower the inflamation and pain?

Hello,

Your infection is there since 2 weeks and if it is tolerable, then it's not so mandatory to visit a doctor. Since it is a visible inflammation, you can take some tablets to reduce the inflammation. Tablet like Ibuprofen can be taken to reduce it.

If it is painful, then you can even take Diclofenac or Tramadol if it necessitates. Just Paracetamol can also be analgesic and anti-inflammatory. So, you can get treated with these medications for 5 to 7 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
