Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11 year old grandson got the bicillin shot for strep throat yesterday. His throat feels fine today however he is really hurting where he received the shot. We have massaged the area and applied a heating pad. Can he take Tylenol for the pain? How long will this pain last? Is this normal?
Yes, pain can be there for 2 to 3 days. He can take any painkiller for that for time being. But if it is still more than 3 days kindly get investigated for an abscess. Usually, injection abscess is very common.
It needs to be drained after incising and treated with an antibiotic. If while giving injection bone is contacted then also baby will feel pain. That bone pain subsides with 4 to 5days. But he needs any painkiller for now.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
