How Can Pain Around The Ankles Be Treated?

I injured my ankle in the gym a few months ago, and I figured it was a torn ligament or something. It was all along the back of my ankle and my Achilles tendon that was sore. It was painful to walk or put pressure on for a few months, but I never got it checked out. Now I have raised red skin in the same area. The skin is really dry and sometimes itchy. Could they be related or is it something else entirely?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As ankle injured during gym, it may be muscle sprain or hairline fracture of any bone in foot or ligament or tendon tear possibilities. You can do x-ray foot, CT foot to rule out all possibilities. Now take tablet Zerodol sp, tablet Omez. Don't give much pressure on the foot. Use ankle cap. Do ice compressions. Treatment depends upon the underlying cause. I will suggest you review here with detailed history or consult with orthopedician with reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
