How Can Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

This morning I ran into the corner of the footboard, impacting the left leg, beside the knee. I ve had a cold pack on it and kept the leg elevated for several hours. There is minimal pain, which I took a 325 mg. aspirin to relieve. The egg seems to be going down. Do I need to be concerned about a blood clot developing. I m a 72 year old female.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and agree on the fact that immobilization and a cold pack is the best thing to do in this situation.

I would just recommend avoiding aspirin as it is also a blood thinner which may increase the risk of bleeding.

I would recommend taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen instead. Having some rest in the next days is necessary.

If your situation does not improve, or even worsens in the next days, I recommend going to the ER and have a physical exam and an X ray study of your leg.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
