How Can Pain On The Foot Be Treated?

About an hour ago, I stepped oddly on my foot and now cannot put any weight on it. It is the front top of the ankle. I ran 7 miles this morning and have been very active all day, so I think my body was tired. It is not at all swollen or red, just painful to step on. I have no fever, and feel fine other than the ankle. I am healthy and 37 years old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems to me that you have sprained your ankle. Since there is no inflammation and swelling, most likely it's not a fracture. I would advise you to rest that foot and avoid weight bearing on that foot for some days. You can use an elastic bandage to support the foot. Apply an ice pack.

You can take over the counter painkiller like Advil to reduce pain. If the pain doesn't subside in one or two days and you are still unable to bear weight on that foot, you should consult an orthopaedician and think about getting an x-ray to rule out a fracture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman
