How Can Severe Anxiety Be Treated?

I am 72 years old and have been asked to return to work. I am apprehensive to do so. The job entails a lot of sitting and talking to callers. I worked about 11 years ago for a major cellular phone company and left due to shift work and high stress. I would like this job as it pays so well. I am sure that being a senior is why they want to hire me - they drug test and are having quite a time keep a work force together. Should I just say no and not work and live on less. I am healthy but I have noticed an increase in anxiety when thinking about this job. Thanks. YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you are not comfortable with the job and if you are thinking that this job responsible for creating the anxiety then better to stay away from the job and if a job is not the reason for anxiety but some other factor is there then you can do the job but you will have to see the psychiatrist for counselling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Akhtar Husain
