How Can Severe Hiccups Be Treated?

I ask for my brother last 3 years he counties drinking nd smoking heavy nd he have family problem this is the first reason he not had properly food his age now 43 years his weight is 48 kg last to days he suffer from hiccups continue 3to4 seconds ones (1) how to treatment it which doctors to recommend sir plz help its

Hiccups are usually benign and it passes spontaneously. If this is lasting for more than 48 hrs and leading to cessation of breath should be investigated. Hope you do not have any sore throat, reflux esophagitis or ear infection. Get a blood test to rule out anyelectrolyte imbalance and to see that kidneys are alright. Get a chest x-ray to rule out anything irritating the nerves supplying the diaphragm. A MRI of brain may also be required sometime.
Chlorpromazine, metochlorpropamide and baclofen are useful in controlling the hiccups. Consult your physician for the prescription. Also, you can also try vinegar- a teaspoon or granulated sugar- a teaspoon.
