How Can Severe Pain In The Left Calf Be Treated?

I am a 70 year old Healthy man who walks (4) Miles a day. Last week about (4) days ago I felt a sharp pain in my calf of the left leg only. I have been taking Alieve and resting on a heating pad. Today I felt a little better, but when I began to walk the pain started all over again. What in your opinion do I have and what should I do to relieve the pain?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You just need to check out that there is no swelling in you calf, or there is no redness there. If none of this problem is there and there is no weakness in your leg then this is probably some muscle strain which is not very uncommon. In that case you can just continue with your pain reliever, can use Tylenol 1 for pain relief and take some rest for a few days.
However, if there is any of the above symptoms (discoloration , or weakness or swelling )or if the pain persisted for more than few days or increased then you must consult your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query.
