How Can Severe Pain In The Ribs After An Injury Be Treated?

Hi, Dr. Andrew, Two days ago, I slipped down on my stairs, and my back landed on the stairs. I went to emergency room in a hospital. The doctor took a X-ray, and he told me my bone is ok, no broken. But it is very pain for my back, I can feel that my rib can move with the pain, and I also can hear a little sound when my rib moves. Should I go back to check with my doctor again to see my rib is in its correct position? or I am sensitive too much, and I just need some relax ? Really appreciate for your help! Dong

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

The possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely. So take a simple painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Apply warm water pad on affected areas of the chest. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
