How Can Severe Pain In The Throat After An Injury Be Treated?

My 13 yr. old son got hit in the throat with a baseball earlier today. The ball hit the dirt first and then hit his throat while he was catching. His couldn t talk for a bit and then could talk but it was raspy and he couldn t yell. Breathing is ok. Voice has gotten better as the night goes on. He says his throat just hurts like a bad sore throat. I ve given him ibuprofen and we have iced it, but now I m worried because we didn t go see a doctor. Is the ice and ibuprofen enough right now?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As your son's breathing is fine, voice is getting fine and he is comfortable otherwise, there is nothing much that you need to do.

As the neck is injured, it may take some days to heal the injury. You can continue with the ice application and ibuprofen. However, if the pain worsens or swelling develops over the injured area, a physician should be consulted for the clinical examination of the injured area.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your son feels better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
