How Can Severe Pain On The Back And Breast While Suffering From Shingles Be Treated?

I have Shingles with considerable pain in areas around middle back and under left breast. My Doctor gave me Gabapentin 100 Mg....didnt do a thing for me. He upped it to 300 Mg. and it is helping my pain, but I feel like Im having an out of body experiance with the higher dosage...guess that come with the Med....not driving.

Hello,

It is common with Gabapentin to have side effects related to its effects in the central nervous system with disorientation, confusion and similar symptoms that you are experiencing. Patients on Gabapentin should not drive due to these side effects. To help avoid the side effects of Gabapentin you can ask your doctor if it would be possible to try other treatments for pain like short term Tramadol instead of Gabapenin. It should be taken only short term as it has the risk for dependence.
