Hi there. Normally antidepressants are used for anxiety attacks for long term treatment but it takes a couple weeks to take effect.
An evaluation will have to be done on what causes the anxiety attack? Is there any other conditions?
With certain types of anxiety disorders therapy can also be very effective combined with treatment. It is always better to treat the cause than to try and numb the symptoms with sedatives/hypnotics
