How Can Sinus Drainage Exacerbate Constipation?

My 18 yr old daughter struggles with constipation. My question is can sinus drainage exacerbate constipation? She seems to see and association between the two and we don t know what to do. I was giving her magnesium and psyllium (starting off slowly) plus she is drinking a lot of water and eating well. The only cold symptom she has is the drainage and coughing from it. Even her senna tea is not cleaning her out like usual. Any other natural recommentations? Would taking straight olive oil have any benefit? Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The best way to treat constipation is increasing the fiber diet, drinking adequate water and regularizing the habit of defecation. No need to worry if you do not pass the stool for a couple of days. If you are unable to defecate or not having the feeling, you can try Isabgol powder as stool softener but best is fiber diet and avoid fat-containing diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Akhtarhusain
