Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Out walking and took off jogging a little - 1st step felt some knee pain. Later that evening, knee swollen and hardly able to walk. Iced off and on 4 days - take Advil couple times per day. It s been 2 weeks. Some days it feels 95% better - other days seems to regress. Continue to ice 2-3 x s per day. Haven t used heating pad yet. Should I wrap with heat? Does healing jjust take time?
I would like to tell you that it is important to diagnose what is causing the swelling and pain in your knee. You have not mentioned whether there is any history of injury. It may be due to osteoarthritis which can be diagnosed with the help of a knee x-ray.
You should visit an orthopaedician as soon as possible. He will be able to diagnose your condition on physical examination. He may also recommend a CT knee depending on the results of your physical examination.
Meanwhile, you should keep on applying heat to the affected area and take Advil for pain relief. Avoid putting too much pressure on that knee. Also, avoid climbing stairs and squatting.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
