Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It's normal for the knee to be painful and swollen after surgery. However, If your husband develops any of these symptoms he should consult his doctor as soon as possible:

1- Severe knee pain.
2- Tender swelling.
3- High fever.
4- Pus and other discharge.
5- Worsening of the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
