How Can Symptoms Of Encephalomalacia Be Managed?

My Mum had a Surgical removal of a Frontal Meningomia in 2011, in 2018 her CT scan indicates extensive encephalomalacia. She is current having issues with mobility, poor eating patterns, loss of balance, lack of stool and urine control and incoherent speech. How can she be assist to live a normal life?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If I were her ordering physician then, I would send her for a PHYSICAL THERAPY EVALUATION and be sure she gets then, to therapy for gait disturbance and balance problems (vestibulotherapy as well) for a minimum of 8-12 weeks. She will likely need nursing assistance at last 2-4 hrs. daily. She will also benefit immensely from SPEECH THERAPY and even a swallowing test to he sure she is not suffering from silent aspiration in case the encephalomalacia is affecting swallowing mechanisms which it very well might.
