How Can The Pain Be Managed After Stopping The Use Of The Fentanyl Patch?

I stopped using 12.5 fentanyl patch 16 days ago. My pain level has increased to 8 -10. It was my choice to stop. I m thinking I made a mistake. When my quality of life was at its best, I was on the 50 patch, using hydrocodone for break through pain. I feared the liver damage that could happen. I always used the patch and hydrocodone as prescribed.

Hi,

I would advise you to consider going back to the Fentanyl patch / Hydrocodone solution. While I understand the fear of liver damage, that is a very rare possibility and certainly not worth living a life of pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
