Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can The Severity And Discomfort Due To Coughing Be Reduced?
My dear friend (53 yrs old, 5'10", approx. 200 lbs) just had two stents put in after a heart attack that was supposedly brought on my pneumonia w/sever cough. The cough still remains after the stent procedure. The coughing, both prior to his attack and now, is so severe, it causes him to pass out. I'm going to be staying w/the patient until he's fully recovered. I'd like to know if there's anything that can be done to ease his discomfort from the coughing that will be safe in lieu of his stent procedure and heart condition? The doctors took him off all the meds prescribed for his pneumonia and he's only taking his heart meds now. Please advise.
Dear sir/madam, in your case the possibility of persistent cough might be either drug induced ( cardiac drugs especially ACE inhibitors group), second possibility is Left ventricular dysfunction ( heart failure). Better is to repeat an chest x ray, assess left ventricle function by echo cardiogram. Just repeat blood counts also whether still infection is persist or not. Follow up with cardiologist. Hope u find this informative.
