How Can Throat Pain While Suffering From GERD Be Treated?
I was suffering from Gerd and that led to esphogasus, causing pain in my throat..... this problem started because I was unable to fall asleep during night for the last 15 days or so. I went to a ENT specialist and he prescribed antacids and antidepressants for my problem and advised me to stop eating spicy, sour, heavy and animal sources of protein. My concern is why antidepressants?? I am a very optimistic and cheerful person. My only stress in life at the moment is that I am looking for a job for the past 1 year, but why the need for antidepressants???

I think using the antiacids will help with the symptoms. A very good one that can be taken is in the group of PPI like omeprazole or pantoprazole.
You should follow the instructions for the foods that you need to avoid as this will help control symptoms better.
As for the antidepressants they are also used in patients with anxiety and if your doctor has found signs of anxiety during the consultation might have pushed him towards treatment of anxiety. On the other hand if you are not sure about the need of the treatment please talk again with your doctor related to this because treatment for anxiety is taken for a long time and it is generally not urgent to be started immediately.
