How Can Thyroid Problems With Fatigue And Weight Gain Be Treated?

Hi, I am 46 and for many years have been complaining to my gp of fatigue, cold, weight gain. My tft's have always been normal so she would just send me away!. Eventually my tsh peeked above the high end and she commenced me on Thyroxine 25mcg in Aug 2010 and it has gradually increased to150mcg to date with my tsh now 0.5. My origional symptoms have subsided. I am now no longer exhausted:just normally tired! I am not freezing all the time. I have the energy to go to the gym 2-3 times a week. I follow a healthy diet BUT I cannot loose a pound and I am really frustrated. I am toning up but not loosing any weight at all. Is this reasonable I am 5ft 3 in and 156lbs. What do you think my options are. My Thyroxine cannot go up any more or I imagine I will suffer symptoms of hyperthyroid! Ty

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your all symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, cold are due to hypothyroidism.
Now you are taking thyroxin and your TSH level comes down to 0.5.
So we can not increase the dosage of thyroxin further. Otherwise you may have drug induced hyperthyroidism.

Just go for regular exercise and control your diet.
Nothing much is required.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
