Hello. i am having some thoughts that i might have been exposed to HIV infection. after 33 days after possible exposure, i had an appendectomy,2 days later i had a complete blood test, everything was normal even the HIV test was negative. do i have anything to worry about? i think when i had appendicitis,my immune system must have been weaken,if i had HIV virus in my body,i would have had some signs and symptoms and even the blood test after my surgery would have been positive for HIV,right??? i had another test after 80 days after possible exposure,it was negative. do you think HIV can appear later??? SHOULD I BE WORRIED??? am freaking out, please with some advise. thank you. HOPE TO GET A QUICK RESPONSE FROM YOU,THANK YOU. PLEASE KEEP MY MESSAGE CONFIDENTIAL.

Hi,

Confirmatory test is HIV RNA test. If this is negative, no need to worry. P24 antigen in window period is where other tests might be negative.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
