How Do I Convince Child That Eating Food Will Not Make Him Fat?

My son is recently divorced. We have my 3yr old grandson on visitations. Recently my grandson has become obsessed about not getting fat. He will not put any food in his mouth without first asking " Will this make me fat?" or he will only have one bite of something so he 'won't get fat'. How do I turn this situation around. I also fear this is teaching him fat people are not acceptable.

Thank you for consulting HCM.
Your son just needs some reassurance and some sympathetic counseling. You can give him examples of other people eating the same food and not being fat. Also advise him to exercise and that would take care of him getting fat because he will burn away all the calories. Give him boiled and non oily foods for some days since they do not cause anyone to become fat and then return him to normal routine diet. Try to reason with him hopefully he will be convinced.
