The routes of transmission medically documented are blood transfusion, mother to child, sexual intercourse with infected person, injury with a needle infected with HIV, to children through breast feeding(not a chief one, but avoided to minimize risk). The start of the cycle could be due to a mutant variant being accidentally(or intentionally) introduced into the external world from the lab(a debated topic).
